Landfill gas in Tandskov
|
Methane produced by decomposing organic solid waste is not only an environmental problem, but can be also be regarded as a profitable asset, as it is often possible to exploit the gas for production of heat and power.
GasCon's engineers have performed many test pumpings, landfill gas production forecasting and feasibility calculations in Denmark and abroad. GasCon has the practical experience of implementing complete landfill gas plants, including container based cogeneration plants.
Extraction of gas from a landfill is one of the best ways to reduce the CO2 emission due to the fact that the methane gas from the landfill is 21 times as strong as the CO2 equivalent as a Greenhouse gas.
If the gas can be destructed in a flere or used in a gas engine producing electricity and heat, emission of Greenhouse gas is reduced significantly.
In a accordance to the Kyoto Protocol destructing Greenhouse Gas gives the project the possibility of selling carbon credits to countries obligated to reduce emission of CO2. The income selling the carbon credits help implementing landfill gas plants in undeveloped countries all over the world.
